Who is Ryan “Cal” Callaghan?
Ryan Callaghan—known affectionately as “Cal”—is one of the most respected voices in modern hunting and conservation. As the Director of Conservation at MeatEater, Ryan has become a powerful advocate for public lands, wildlife habitat, and ethical hunting practices.
Raised in the American West, Cal spent years as a fishing and hunting guide before helping build First Lite into a trusted name in performance hunting gear. Today, he uses his platform on MeatEater, Cal’s Week in Review, and countless field episodes to educate and engage hunters on complex issues like chronic wasting disease, invasive species, and access to public land.
Beyond media and storytelling, Ryan serves on the national board of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers and is deeply involved in shaping wildlife and land-use policy. Whether he’s glassing for mule deer or testifying on behalf of conservation in D.C., Cal is constantly working to ensure our hunting traditions and wild places are preserved for future generations.
Come Hang Out
Bring your questions. Bring a buddy. Bring your curiosity. Whether you’re a die-hard First Lite fan or just looking to learn more about layering, elk country, or conservation—you’ll leave inspired (and probably a little better dressed for the field).
We’ll see you on July 12th.
