In 1992, 1 Shot Gear Founder, Alex Bourlakov, came to the United States with nothing more than an engineering degree and $1000. After a few short years of living in the States, he discovered Western Big Game hunting and immediately became obsessed with the challenges, hard work, and wild places that chasing mule deer, elk, and bighorn sheep would take him. This obsession eventually led to him daydreaming of opening his own storefront, and in 2009 when he experienced an unexpected layoff... Alex took this opportunity to pursue his dream.

Out of the gate, Alex wanted 1 Shot Gear to be different. Instead of carrying every brand, he could get his hands on, 1 Shot Gear would focus on carrying the best and most reliable gear on the market. "We started by becoming an authorized dealer for Sitka Gear which we sold out of my garage in Denver, Colorado, for a number of years," said Alex. "Instead of focusing on sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, we focused on understanding each hunters hunting style, application, and most importantly - their budgets."

Over the next few years, word about this "cool little shop out of this guy's garage" quickly spread, and we eventually became known for being knowledgable, helpful, and having things in stock that the big box stores didn't. This reputation helped us move into a small retail location and, in the spring of 2020 - move into a much larger (and nicer) storefront in Golden, Colorado.

Sitka Gear sent us unbelievable shelves, tables, and clothing racks to showcase complete collections. Swarovski sent us large, shiny, well-lit display cases. Stone Glacier sent us manikins, display racks, and product overview cards. HanWag sent us boot displays with an entire line of their rugged mountain boots to fill them. With the help of our partners, we've built a premium store that we are very proud of, and most importantly - our mission has remained the same.
